Sha Ongelungel (she/they) is a Micronesian (Palauan) rabble-rouser and Creative Saboteur of the Status Quo. She does strategic decolonial communications and multimedia production, mostly to make people uncomfortable in ways that lead to policy reports. She aspires to aggravate Zionists, fascists, authoritarians, and predators in the most legal, maliciously compliant ways she can think up.
She started the #BeingMicronesian hashtag to document anti-Micronesian discrimination. It went international and helped inform a Hawaii Advisory Committee report to the U.S. Civil Rights Commission on how COFA migrants are treated. Not bad for a tweet.
She also makes things: the #MicronesiaMinute web series, The Sha Nanigans Podcast, and the decolonization webcomic Colorful & Noisier. them magazine named her one of nine activists and educators to follow for a revolutionary view of climate justice. At COP26, she talked about colonization, Western imperialism, and military pollution to rooms that had probably heard less about them than they should have. Her keynote at UC Berkeley's 5th Annual OmaoCH Conference, "The PI Isn't Silent," took on Pasifika erasure, diaspora survival, and digital resistance. It also took on empire, data, and performative inclusion, and none of them came out unscathed.
Off the clock, she co-founded the online shop Snarky Brown Studio, where she adds to the inventory with unhinged stickers and press-on nails that only her fellow feral potatoes would dare to wear. She also loses daily battles with her ungovernable Shiba Inu puppies, Tybalt, Lucrezia, and Scremington, and binges manhwa, manga, and anime. A lifelong feral potato and connoisseur of Habsburg jokes, she remains an all-around benevolent-ish troll.
