AFTER tasting their first and only defeat in the hands of the GSM Babes, the Sakudi lady sluggers brought out all they had to secure the 2015 Belau Softball Association Women’s Tournament at the Dandan Softball Field yesterday.
The GSM Babes surged to a 10-9 victory, the first time they ever beat Sakudi.
Sakudi took the lead with Thelma Mizer hitting two RBIs. Liz Lebria and Rachel Salalila added RBI a piece.
In the seventh inning, Catalina Dela Cruz hit a double before Ta’ann Demapan tied the ball game with a single.
Then, with only one batter out, Geri Dela Cruz hit the decisive RBI single to win the game.
The GSM Babes however, had to beat the pennant champions twice. So they clashed again in the afternoon.
Sakudi duplicated their earlier feat starting with Juljean Ngeskebei’s double in the first inning. Bert Camacho sent her to the home plate with a single before Mizer also hit a run-scoring single.
Despite the GSM Babes’ eight base hits, three of which coming from Catalina Dela Cruz for a 3-for-3, the Sakudi fielders never allowed them to reach the home plate holding them scoreless in the entire game.
Mizer, Pina Magofña and Karleen Reyes walked three runners home and Britta Baechler hit an RBI single in the following three innings.
In the fifth inning, the Sakudi batters defeated relief pitcher, Catalina Dela Cruz, rounding the bases and reaching the home plate on walks.
In the four-run seventh inning, Sakudi secured their 25-0 rout of the GSM Babes.
