Oh 2015– what a long and crazy year you’ve been!
Since the launch of Native ExPat Radio, a year ago, we’ve grown and evolved in so many ways. From learning how mobile apps work to the formation of Merirei Media Group, LLC (MMG)– there hasn’t been a dull moment, or even a moment to spare! And as we head into 2016, there’s even more changes to be had.
In the last couple of months, MMG had been having serious issues with our live stream server and our mobile app host. A decision was made to transfer to another host for the station and find a different company to host our mobile apps.
Unfortunately, this resulted in the lack of live shows and eventually in our station going off-air entirely for two days. We apologize for that inconvenience and can only attribute it to growing pains. Thankfully, however, we’re now back on-air. Albeit things are still undergoing major work– but you *can* listen to the station once more!
In the coming weeks, we’ll be releasing the new apps– which I hope will be to the audience’s satisfaction. We’ve also launched the Native ExPat Radio player page– at www.nativeexpatradio.com — for those who can’t access the apps. The MMG site will remain in its original layout and you can continue to listen to the station from this site. The player page will simply be another, easier, way to listen in.
In response to the heaps of emails we get asking if we’re hiring or looking for help: MMG is looking for Palauans (preferably in Oregon/Washington, to make training easier) with some broadcast/online media experience to host two new shows.* If you’re interested in hosting a show but live outside the Pacific Northwest, please please email Sha Merirei directly (or contact via Facebook) prior to December 31, 2015 to make arrangements for a training session. Again, this will be for two new shows and you can host individually or as a group!
Additionally, Native ExPat Radio will be launching a crowdfunding campaign on New Year Day. In response to emails and messages from all you AMAAAAZING listeners who’ve asked for ways you can help support the station– this is it. We’ve kept the station (mostly) ad-free in order for people to get the most out of their musical enjoyment, but this does come at a personal expense. The crowd funding campaign will allow our supporters to donate to keep the station running, either by making a one-time contribution or by signing up as a patron. You can donate as little as $1 or as much as your heart (and bank account) will allow. Keep an eye open for the crowdfunding launch here on the MMG page on January 1st!
2016 will be a year of growth and learning for MMG and Native ExPat Radio, even more so than 2015. While always a little anxious about big moves and changes, we’ve made it through our first year– and it’s because of our amazing listeners and the support of the Palauan community– at home, abroad and (of course) online!
Native ExPat Radio exists because it has an audience. So to all of our listeners, supporters, sponsors, backers, family and friends– Happy, Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and KOM KMAL MESULANG! <3
