Taipei, May 19 (CNA) Palau President Thomas Esang Remengesau Jr. on Thursday visited Taiwan’s Legislative Speaker Su Jia-chyuan (蘇嘉全) and congratulated Taiwan on electing its first-ever female president.
Remengesau is leading a delegation to Taiwan to attend President-elect Tsai Ing-wen’s (蔡英文) inauguration ceremony on Friday.
During their meeting, Su expressed hope that Palau will continue to speak up for Taiwan at international events and support Taiwan’s participation in international organizations.
He said the Legislative Yuan has established a Taiwan-Palau parliamentary friendship association, which aims to enhance the economic, tourism, medical, educational and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Remengesau, meanwhile, urged more Taiwanese tourists to visit Palau, and said he is leading a delegation to Taiwan to attend Tsai’s inauguration because the Palauan government values its relationship with the Taiwanese government.
